PE Course Information

There will be a two year course leading to GCSE in Physical Education (PE) or Games.

Purpose

To stimulate interest in Physical Education and give a broader understanding of its importance in both work and leisure.

To improve the understanding of the human body and to show the importance of maintaining fitness through diet and exercise.

Requirements:

Practical assessment and exam

To partake in four activities from at least two of the six areas of National Curriculum.

To plan, perform and evaluate a Health Related Exercise Programme.

The six activity areas are games, gym, athletics, swimming, dance and outdoor and adventurous activities. It is also possible to get marks from some activities which you do in your leisure time such as golf, cycling or horse riding.

Practical assessment also includes self and peer analysis of performance

Written Exam

This includes four main sections:

• Health, fitness and the factors affecting performance.

• The effects and principles of training.

• Local and national provision for sport.

• Social and cultural influences on sport, e.g. media, peers, drugs, sponsorship.

• Factors affecting individual performance and participation, e.g. changing attitudes, facilities etc.
