Creative Arts and Media Diploma

We are delighted to have been awarded the opportunity to be in the very first group of schools to be allowed to introduce one of the first Diplomas. The Government intend Diplomas to be the preferred pathway of learning for most students in the next five to ten years.

Diplomas are available at Level 3 (with three and a half ‘A’ levels) at Sixth Form Colleges and are a pathway to university degree courses. Soon there will be seventeen Diplomas in subjects like Engineering, ICT, Business and Finance and Languages.

However, only five are currently available and we chose to be involved in Creative Arts and Media as the talents needed are very strong amongst both our teaching staff and our students.

Our students will take the Diploma at Level 2, worth six GCSE A* - C equivalents

Diplomas at Level 2 are aimed at people able to at least get to grade C, and probably higher, in some of the following:

Film studies

How advertising works and making advertisements

• Film making
• 2D Art
• Television studies
• 3D Art
• Programme making
• Graphic Art

Learning will be led by trained school practitioners already teaching in these areas; however there will be major input from industrialists and artists working at the cutting edge of their industries in the Greater Manchester area. A two week work experience placement in one of these fields is an essential part of the course.

Students will do a mixture of deep learning and creating within a number of experiences outlined, combined with some cross-curricular work where skills from a number of the learning fields are combined.
