A Warm Welcome
Welcome to Walkden High School which is now on its new site and in its new state-of-the-art building on Old Clough Lane. It is very exciting to see the students working and learning in this new school. I would like to thank all the staff involved in the planning of the building and in the preparation of the students and staff for moving to the new building. Especially, I would like to pay tribute to Elaine Hilton, my predecessor for the vision and energy to see this task through. I wish her well in her retirement.
Our results last year were the best GCSE results ever, with an increase of 12%, at 96% of our students gaining 5 or more A* to C grades. We also increased our 5 or more A* to C grades, including English and Maths to 61%. These are great results, and we are confident we will do even better this coming year.
Our students take part in a huge range of activities outside the classroom to develop their creativity, problem solving, team spirit, social skills, health and their wider interests. Some examples of which I will list here although this is far from exhaustive;

This is just a taste of what we offer the students beyond their lessons. We understand that qualifications are crucial for our young people but are not the only attributes that need to be developed, thus our commitment to these types of activities.
I hope you enjoy browsing our website and that, if you are trying to pick a school for your child, that you get a flavour of what it means to be a Walkden student. I believe we have students and staff who, together, can achieve amazing things. I believe that Walkden High School is a fantastic place to be and hope you and your child will join us as we strive for excellence.
