Student Support Officers
(Learning Mentors)

Student Support Officers were previously called Learning Mentors; the roles within school have changed slightly.

What is an SSO?

  • A professional person dedicated to working with a range of students in order to help them
make the most out of school.
  • A friendly listening adult.
  • A source of knowledge to assist in a smoother passage through school.

What can a mentor do to help the student?

  • Devote time to build one to one relationships.
  • Offer support and discuss concerns.
  • Help and improve attendance and punctuality.
  • Help improve and organise school work.
  • Monitor student's progress with the teaching staff.
  • Support coursework development to enable full potential.

What are our aims?

  • To raise attainment.
  • To improve self esteem.
  • To improve motivation to learn.
  • To improve communication with parents/teachers
  • To recognise and celebrate achievement.
