Student Support Officers
(Learning Mentors)
Student Support Officers were previously called Learning Mentors; the roles within school have changed slightly.
What is an SSO?
- A professional person dedicated to working with a range of students in order to help them
make the most out of school. - A friendly listening adult.
- A source of knowledge to assist in a smoother passage through school.
What can a mentor do to help the student?
- Devote time to build one to one relationships.
- Offer support and discuss concerns.
- Help and improve attendance and punctuality.
- Help improve and organise school work.
- Monitor student's progress with the teaching staff.
- Support coursework development to enable full potential.
What are our aims?
- To raise attainment.
- To improve self esteem.
- To improve motivation to learn.
- To improve communication with parents/teachers
- To recognise and celebrate achievement.
