Year 10 Examinations - March 2012
As part of the school’s assessment policy, students in Year 10 will take “formal” examinations in most of their examination subjects during the week Monday 5th to Friday 9th March. Each Year 10 student should have a copy of the timetable (below). These were given out on Tuesday 14th February.
The examinations will take place in the Performance Hall or the Sports Hall and will be conducted under strict examination conditions so that students are aware of how they are expected to conduct themselves in public examinations (GCSE or AS level).
Please use the timetable to help your child in their revision. We would also be very grateful if you could make sure that your child has the correct equipment for each exam.

Exams 2012
There are GCSE examinations for some Year 10 and 11 groups in January and March and the generic timetables are below. Please try to avoid taking your child out of school on these dates as public examinations cannot be re-scheduled.
Individual candidates concerned will receive their own timetable nearer the date of the examination.

Summer 2012:
After Christmas, Year 11 and some Year 10 candidates will be entered for the final round of examinations. The written examinations start at Walkden High on Monday 14th May and finish on Wednesday 27th June, with the summer half-term holiday in the middle (4th – 8th June) where there are no examinations. Please see the timetable below.
Please do not arrange any family holidays when exams are scheduled as re-sits are not possible. More information on exam entries is below.
Exam entries for Summer 2012:
The process starts in January and parents/carers should receive in the post an individual Statement of Entry showing which subjects a candidate has been entered for and at what Tier (Foundation or Higher) where tier of entry applies.
This and other information is sent out before the February Half-Term holiday (17th February). Parents/carers/candidates will then have the opportunity to query the tier of entry and amendments are made up to the end of March. Please make sure the school has up-to-date information regarding addresses and contact numbers.
Please be aware that these examinations are public examinations and the rules set by the awarding bodies (AQA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC) apply. To help you understand what our expectations are in terms of conduct in the exam room I have included at the bottom of this page a series of important documents. Each of these documents is updated every year and the latest ones will appear from January.
Good communication between home and school is a key part in helping your child achieve their best in each examination. If you have any queries about examinations your child will take this year, please do not hesitate to contact me on my direct number: 0161 975 8010.
